In case you missed it, the report of the United Nations' so-called "fact-finding
mission" into the Israeli war in Gaza last winter "found" that Israel was supposedly guilty of "war crimes, possibly crimes against humanity." The report was released on September 18, the eve of Rosh Hashanah--by a Jewish judge no less (Richard Goldstone)! How's that for holiday wishes?
Among the outrageous claims in this report is that:
*Israel deliberately targeted Palestinian civilians;
*there was no evidence of Hamas using human shields to protect its terrorists from Israel assaults.
These claims are baseless and ridiculous in and of themselves. (For a detailed analysis, click here.) But even worse is a statement he made in an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria. In the interview, he claims to not question Israel's right to defend itself...but only the methods used. He then goes on to state the bizarre: "We did not check whether Hamas had the right to use military power to obtain independence for the Palestinian people."
EXCUSE ME?!?!?!?!? Which one of the 12,000 rockets over an 8-year time span did Mr. Goldstone forget about? Did he miss out on what Obama himself said of the situation, namely that "if somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I'm going to do everything in my power to stop that...and I would expect Israelis to do the same?"
Please tell me what it was that Israel did to deserve 12,000 rockets over 8 years? Was it the crime of giving the Palestinians self-governance in the West Bank and Gaza? Was it the horrendous, unthinkable deed of pulling its own citizens out of Gaza altogether? Or maybe it was the--gasp!--offer of half of Jerusalem to the Palestinians for a future state?
These actions surely are despicable, aren't they, Mr. Goldstone! Surely anyone in their right mind would respond to such intransigence with 12,000 rockets! How could it be otherwise? After all, Hamas has the "right to use military power to obtain independence for the Palestinian people," don't they? Never mind that Israel has done everything in her power to give the Palestinians a chance at independence. They just need 12,000 more rockets shoved at them to make them really get the point!
It is unthinkable that this man has the audacity to call himself a Zionist. To accuse Israel of using disproportionate force in its war against unbridled Hamas terrorism is nothing more than the same moral relativism that has been used in this conflict since it began in 1948. The Arabs (or in this case, the Palestinians) attack Israel unprovoked...Israel responds...the media and the so-called "international courts" indict them both. This is humanistic thinking run amok with no working sense of right and wrong--good and evil. If the Arabs--oh, pardon me, I mean the "Palestinians"--harrass, kill, and maim innocent Israeli's with bombs and missiles, it's only because they're frustrated and oppressed victims...and the Israeli's have to respond like the adults and "reason" with their killers--oops, I mean their victims. OK, OK, boys will be boys...and the Palestinians should be polite and not murder Israeli's...but then again Israel is the "adult" and should know better.
C'mon. Please. When is enough of this foolhardy game enough?
